Prosecuting attorney still needed for Benson

At last week’s Benson City Council meeting, it appeared as if the city was covered for legal services for its prosecutions of gross misdemeanor and felony crimes.
“To ensure continuity of services, Chief Ian Hodge and I have been in contact with Rebecca Trapp, Big Stone County Attorney, to provide prosecution services through the end of the year,” Benson City Manager Matt Skaret told the council at its Oct. 5 meeting.
“If the arrangement works well for both parties, a longer-term contract could be considered. Chief Hodge has known Trapp for many years, and she is highly respected in the legal and law enforcement arena,” he said.
Monday night, the council unanimously approved signing an agreement for prosecution services with Trapp.
However, the Swift County Monitor-News has been told that Big Stone County’s Board of Commissioners has declined to have its attorney take on the Benson’s prosecutions.
