Gerads resigning as county attorney

Late last year, attorney Deborah K. Gerads came to Minnesota from New Mexico expecting to be an assistant to County Attorney Danielle Olson. However, she soon found herself serving as the Swift County attorney.
Three days after the Swift County Board of Commissioners voted 3 to 2 on Jan. 6 to limit her raise for 2026 to 2.8%, Olson resigned effective Jan. 26.  Gerads was soon named Swift County’s interim lead attorney.
Now Gerads has announced her resignation effective Oct. 12, leaving both Swift County and the City of Benson looking for someone to take over leading criminal prosecutions.
