County may help cover Prairie 5 shortfall

Swift County will donate up to $15,000 to the Prairie Five delivered meals program only if the other four counties in its region also contribute equal amounts. 
The funds would come from the $30,000 commissioners set aside in the 2026 budget for contingency expenses. So far, the board has spent just $1,373 from the fund, Administrator Tesa Tomaschett told commissioners at their Aug. 4 meeting, leaving over $28,000 remaining.
“Is there anything from the other counties?” Commissioner Larry Mahoney, District 4-Fairfield Township, asked. The county board was made aware of the Prairie Five delivered meals budget shortfall at its July 21 meeting and was hoping to hear how other counties in the region were reacting to it.
