Verna Quandt

Verna Quandt passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at CentraCare-Benson Hospital in Benson, Minnesota, at the age of 99.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson.

Visitation will be held at the church starting at 9:30 a.m.  

Verna Marie Quandt was born October 25, 1926, at the family farm home in Shible Township near Appleton, Minnesota, to Adolph and Augusta (Stock) Munsterman. She was baptized at home  October 28, 1926, by Pastor Wachter. Verna attended the parochial school near Shible Church and was confirmed there March 17, 1940. She later attended ninth grade at Appleton School. Verna worked at the Grill Café in Appleton.

March 8, 1946, Verna was united in marriage to Donald Quandt at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Gierke officiating. Together, they raised six children and built a wonderful life centered around their family and farm.

Verna was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she participated in the Ladies’ Aid and Sunday School. She was also involved in a homemakers’ group and enjoyed gardening and canning. After raising her children, Verna worked at Fingerhut in Benson and Holloway Produce, while always making time for her family.

Quilting was one of Verna’s greatest passions. Over the years, she made hundreds of quilts, sharing them with family and friends, donating them to her church, and giving many to the Eagles Healing Nest.

Verna is survived by her children: Dwight (Donna) Quandt, Maureen (Bob) Erdman, Merilyn Kent, Deb (Terry) Quigley, Paul (Deb) Quandt; daughter-in-law, Dianne Quandt; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Donald Quandt; son, Donald Quandt, Jr.; great-grandson, Nicholas; great-granddaughter, Faith; and son-in-law, Scott Kent.
