Rodney Fossen, 67, of Benson, died on Monday, December 30, 2013, at his home in Benson. 
Services are Friday, January 3 at 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Benson with Rev. Dennis McManus officiating.
Visitation is Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at St. Mark's.  Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday.
Arrangements are with the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
Rodney Lee Fossen, age 67, of Benson, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at his home in Benson, Minnesota.  Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., at the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson, with Rev. Dennis McManus officiating.  Burial will follow the service at the Benson City Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.  Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson is in charge of the arrangements.  www.zniewskifuneralhome.com
 
Rodney Lee Fossen was born April 29, 1946, in Montevideo, Minnesota, the son of Ludvig Donald and Alice Agnes Louise (Pansch) Fossen.  He was baptized at the Minnesota Valley Lutheran Church in Louisberg and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Odessa.  He grew up in the Madison and Odessa area and graduated from Odessa High School in 1964.  On October 22, 1966, Rodney was united in marriage to Carol Giessinger at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank, South Dakota.  This union was blessed with two children.  Carol preceded Rodney in death in 2001.  Rodney served his country with the United States Army in Korea during the Vietnam Era from December 1968 to July 1970.  He received an Honorable Discharge.  On September 21, 2002, Rodney was united in marriage to Sandra Joyce Thompson at the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson, Minnesota.  Rodney worked at Flannery Meats in Milbank, SD, managed the Super America in Aberdeen, SD, drove truck delivering petroleum and anhydrous products, managed the Farmland Industries Anhydrous Plant near Murdock, MN, for 21 years, and was a dispatcher at Kane Transport in Sauk Center, MN.  He retired in 2011.  Rodney was a life member of the VFW, a member of Pheasants Forever, and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, where he served on the Finance Board, and as an Elder, Usher and Treasurer.  Among the things Rodney enjoyed were hunting, fishing, making homemade sausage, carpentry and tinkering, gardening, canning, and flea marketing.  He loved spending time at the lake and spending time with family.  Rodney was called from this life on Monday, December 30, 2013, at his home in Benson, Minnesota.  He attained the age of 67 years, 8 months and 1 day.
 
Rodney is survived by his wife, Sandra Fossen of Benson; children: Jodi (Juan) Garza of Fargo, ND, and Justin (Amy) Fossen of Buxton, ND; grandchildren: Connor, Dusty, Ashley, Kateesha, Kierra, Juan Jr., Alana, Michael, Emillio, Michaela (Bryan) Mackley, Morgan, Lukas, Ava, and Brooklyn; great-grandchildren: Anthony, Melanie, Major, and Nolan; siblings: Charlotte (Floyd) Redepenning of White Bear Lake, MN, Mike (Doris) Fossen of Spicer, MN, and Sharon Stock of Leesburg, FL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, L. Donald and Alice Fossen; infant daughter, Jennifer; his first spouse, Carol, in 2001; grandson, Lorenzo Garza, in 2010; Aunt Doris Bahl; Uncle Curtis (Helen) Fossen; and many other relatives and friends.
