Stephen Lloyd Hanson, 81, passed on to heaven March 23, 2022, in the peace of his home after a seven-year battle against pulmonary fibrosis.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at River Valley Crosstown, 10801 Red Cir Dr, Minnetonka, MN 55343. Visitation at the church one hour before service. Interment: Fort Snelling Memorial Cemetary 1:45 Gate #2, Assembly Area 3.
Stephen was a graduate from Southwest High School and Gustavus Adolphus College. He earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of North Dakota and Minnesota Medical Schools.
He served our country for two years in the Army and 18 in the Navy Reserve, retiring Captain – 06. His medical career of 47 years was spent at Family Physicians, Mpls; clinics in Starbuck, Benson, and Osakis, and as an independent contractor for veterans in Virginia Beach.
For 35 years, he served in the Gideon ministry, making 12 trips to other countries, distributing over 800,000 Bibles and training others. Steve’s heart was loving, kind, inquisitive, loyal, and generous. He loved Jesus, appreciated life, and never uttered a complaint.
He is survived by his wife, Oronah; three sons: Brad (Jackie), Brian (Brage) and Joel (Myriam) and their mother Gayle; his stepdaughters, Erica McMullen, Sarah (Matthew Loverink), and Kirsta (Lee Polensky); his sister, Kathy (Jim Noel); his brother-in-law, Michael Brown; 21 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Gideons International for the purchase of Bibles in Steve’s name: www.gideons.org.
