Karen Yvonne (Reuss) Hester, September 23, 1954 • January 11, 2023
Karen Yvonne (Reuss) Hester was born September 23, 1954 in Appleton, Minnesota to Lester and Lucille (Schliep) Reuss. She was baptized October 17, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway, Minnesota by Pastor W. F. Walther. Karen was confirmed May 4, 1969 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Danvers, Minnesota by Pastor Meichsner.
Karen attended school at Danvers Elementary and Benson High School, graduating with the Class of 1972.
After graduation, Karen lived in various places including, Minneapolis, Minnesota, California and Wisconsin before settling in Texas.
February 7, 2004, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, David Hester. Together they were able to share almost 19 years of “Happily Ever After”.
Karen worked for many years as a Ticket Agent for American Airlines until a work accident forced her disability retirement.
Karen and David lovingly cared for David’s mother Margaret Ann and Grandmother “Omie” in their home until, in later years when more care was needed, they moved in with “the ladies” and continued to care for them until their passing.
Karen loved and was very proud of their back yard gardens and patio containers full of colorful flowers, which she credited to David’s “Green Thumb”, often sending us pictures or posting pictures on social media. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings for Holidays, Birthdays, other special occasions, such as Football Sundays, Texas Hold’em and 10,000 Dice tournaments, which were annual events taken very seriously.
Karen loved her family more than life itself. She was proud of “her boys” and felt blessed for the “bonus” sons that David brought to the marriage.
Karen passed from this life Tuesday, January 11, 2023 at Plano Presbyterian Hospital, Plano, TX. She attained the age of 68 years, three months and 19 days.
She is survived by her husband, David Hester of Carrollton, Texas, her sons: Gabriel Miller of Richardson, TX, Nathan (fiancé Corrie Napoles) Miller of Waxahachie, TX; step-sons: Anthony Hester of Richardson, TX, Andrew Hester of Carrollton, TX; brothers: Robert Reuss of Benson, Minnesota, Donald Reuss of Ottertail, Minnesota; sisters: Shirley Foster of Benson, Sharon Montoya of Benson, Bonnie (Albert) Pina of Carrollton, TX, JoAnn Isais of St. Paul, Minnesota, Linda (Ken) Wall of Benson. Sisters-in-law: Cindy (Beau) Horton of Clyde, TX and Lois Reuss of Holloway. Karen is also survived by many beloved Nieces and Nephews along with all the “greats”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Lucille Reuss; mother and father-in-law Margaret Ann and Reagon Hester, special grandmother-in-law Margaret “Omie” Harrison; siblings: Jean, Lois and Carol Reuss, Jerry Reuss, Janice and husband Vernon Poverud and many other family members.
There is sure to be a great reunion in Heaven!
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
