The Rewards Of Showing People They Matter

“Do I matter?” It’s an age-old question most of us ask at some point in our lives.
‘Psychologists have been studying mattering for decades and describe it as …an umbrella term that captures other needs like connection, belonging, and purpose, while also going beyond each of them,” Jennifer Breheny Wallace, author of Mattering: The Secret to Feeling Like You Matter, said in an interview with Jacqueline Nesi.
She says that self-esteem asks, “How do I feel about myself?” Belonging asks, “Am I included?”  Mattering goes further, “Do I count—and do my actions make a positive impact on the world around me?”
