Benson boys in third after first day of Section 5A

The Benson boys and girls golf team started their post season with the Section 5A tournament at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Willmar May 22. The boys team finished the day in third place and the girls finished the first day in fifth.
Benson finished the first day with a team score of 349 in third place. Dawson-Boyd leads the tournament with a total of 343.
Charlie Goff led the way for Benson in fifth place with a round of 81. Logan Hadfield finished in 11th with an 86 and Franklin Knutson was one shot behind Logan Hadfield in 12th. The final score the Braves used was from Eli Jones who was 18th with a 91. Connor Hadfield finished 51st with a round of 104 and Andrew Nissen came in 59th by carding a 114.
The girls shot a team round of 474 to put them in fifth. Dawson-Boyd is leading the tournament with a round of 349.
Payton Hill paced the Braves with a round of 103 to put her in 18th. Tara Beyer came in 23rd with a 108. Molly Jones carded a 119 and placed 27th and Taylor McGee finished 32nd with a 144.
The teams will be back at Eagle Creek Golf Course May 29 for the second day of sections and will look to punch their tickets to state.
