Dineen finishes freshmen season 17-6 at SDSU
Thomas Dineen completed his freshman wrestling season at South Dakota State University with a 17-6 record.
After the most decorated high school wrestling career at Benson High School, Thomas Dineen committed to wrestle in the Big XII conference at South Dakota State University. In just his freshman season, he was able to pick up 17 wins and will look to use this season as a springboard to propel him to even more success in his sophomore season.
Dineen wrestled at 197 pounds all season long and finished with a 17-6 record. It took awhile for Dineen to get used to the new competition level and was only 6-6 through his first 12 collegiate matches. He managed to finish his season with 11 straight wins to end the year on a high note.
His winning percentage of .739 was the fourth highest of SDSU wrestlers who competed in at least 20 matches this year.
Dineen managed to earn seven wins by technical fall and five by fall, while not losing a single match in that fashion himself. His fastest pin came against Cole Carlucci of Iowa State when Dineen pinned him in 2:08.
The competition season ended for Dineen on February 3, but he supported his teammates who finished third in the Big XII Tournament and 13th in the Division I National Wrestling Tournament.
