Benson/KMS boys earn team win at home meet

There were two competitions on the Benson/KMS track and field team’s schedule last week. They started with the Section 5A True Team meet in Montevideo May 7. The girls finished fourth as a team and the boys were fifth. Then, the team got to host their home meet in Benson May 9 and the boys finished with a team win and the girls were second.
Section 5A True Team
For the Section 5A True Team event, the Benson/KMS track and field team joined nine other teams in Montevideo. The girls finished fourth as a team and the boys came in fifth.
The girls finished the meet in fourth out of 10 teams with 424.5 points. Minnewaska Area was the winning team with 549.5 points.
Ava Noble won the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.74 and was second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.14. Carly Tolifson won the high jump by clearing 5’ and Madelynn Luft came in fifth with 4’ 8’’. Tolifson finished second in the 100 with a time of 13.14 and second in the 200 with 27.93. Mamie Luft finished second in the discus with a throw of 94’ 8’’. Amber Rosemeier was third in the 400 with a time of 1:04.42 and Leah Wagner was eighth with 1:08.16. Keala Carroll was third in the pole vault with a height of 7’ 6’’ and Izzy Wirth was fourth with the same height. Kaida Helgenset was fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:40.12. In the relays, Benson/KMS finished second in the 4x200 with a time of 1:55.45, second in the 4x400 with a time of 4:22.20, third in the 4x100 with a time of 53.69 and eighth in the 4x800 with a 13:21.11.
The boys finished fifth out of 10 teams with 359.5 points and Montevideo won the event with 549 total points.
Hunter Kallstrom won the shot put with a throw of 53’ 2.5’’ and was second in the discurs with a toss of 136’ 11’’. Another win came from DeAndre Holloway in the high jump when he cleared 6’.  Kallstrom finished second in the 200 with a time of 23.75 and Jaden McCarter was fourth with 24.15. In the 100, Kallstrom was third with a time of 11.34 and McCarter came in seventh with 11.54. Holloway finished fourth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.04. Quin Peterson was sixth in the 300 hurdles with a 46.05. Peterson finished the triple jump in sixth with a distance of 37’ 6’’. In the relays, Benson/KMS finished fifth in the 4x100 with a time of 46.45, fifth in the 4x200 with a time of 1:41.28, sixth in the 4x400 with 3;54.82 and seventh in the 4x800 with a 9:40.82.

The Benson/KMS track and field team were able to perform in front of their home fans in Benson on Thursday. Both teams performed well with the boys winning the event as a team and the girls placing third.
The boys won their home meet as a team with 123.5 points, 17.5 points in front of Central Minnesota Christian School in second.
Hollowy picked up a win in the high jump by clearing 6’. In the 100, McCarter was second with a time of 11.47 and Eshon Freeman was fourth with 11.97. McCarter was also second in the 200 with a time of 23.35. Kallstrom finished second in the shot put with a throw of 48’ 5’’ and he was also fifth in the discus with 113’ 3’’. Isaiah Rosemeier finished second in the 3,200 with a time of 11:42.41 and Justin Rosenboom was fifth with a 14:25.04. Holloway came in second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.43. Peterson was third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.07. Peterson was fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 36’ 7’’.  In the 800, Cole Froehlich was fifth with 2:24.20 and Colin Peters finished seventh with 2:25.74. In the 400, Connor Stine was fifth with 56.60 and Darin Hippe was seventh with 59.42. Rosemeier finished seventh in the pole vault by clearing 16’ 9’’. In the long jump, Freeman was eighth with a leap of16’ 9’’. The Braves dominated the relays, finishing first in the 4x100 with a time of 44.77, first in the 4x400 with a 3:44.41, first in the 4x800 with 9:38.77 and third in the 4x200 with a 1:38.28.
The girls placed second as a team with 116 points and MACCRAY/RCW won the meet with 139.5 points.
