Roger William Skare, 90, of St. Michael, Minnesota passed away Friday, August 21, 2026.

He was born on February 15, 1936 in Swift Falls, Minnesota the son of Theodore John Skare Sr. and Eloise Lillian (Fearon) Skare.

Roger attended grade school in Swift Falls and high school in Benson, Minnesota.  After graduation, he attended St. Cloud Tech for one year and Concordia College in Moorhead for half a year.   After leaving Concordia, he joined The United States Navy.   He graduated from electrical & submarine school.   He was assigned to The United States Submarine #418 in Key West, Florida.   Later the submarine was transferred to Charleston, South Carolina.    It is there where he met Wilma “Jean” Billingsley.

November 30, 1959, Roger W. Skare and Wilma “Jean” Billingsley were joined in marriage.  They were happily married for 66 years.

After Roger was discharged from The United States Navy, they moved to Minnesota for about a year and then onto Winter Haven, Florida.

In Florida, Roger managed an Ace Hardware Store. Jean worked as a cashier and salesperson in Thom McAn Shoe Store.   When they returned to Minnesota, Roger went to work as a purchase agent for an Independent Millwork, a wholesaler to LRR Yards in Minnesota.   Jean worked at a couple of Golf Pro Shops at a couple of different courses in the area.

Shortly after moving to St. Michael, they joined the golf course called Fox Hollow and were charter members there for 30 years.

After their retirement in 1999, they became snow birds and spent three months each winter in Florida playing golf.

Roger is survived by a sister: Carol (Carlyle) Boettcher of Apple Valley; a brother: Terry (Carol) Skare of Princeton; He will be missed by many nieces, nephews and good friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Wilma “Jean” Skare, his parents Mr. & Mrs. Ted Skare, a brother Ted J. Skare Jr. and by a sister-in-law Verona Skare.

Jean Skare was born in Cookeville, Tennessee on September 7, 1936, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Billingsley and passed away July 26, 2021 in Buffalo, Minnesota.   She attended school in Cookeville, Tennessee while working in her mother’s restaurant.   She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers and two sisters.

Roger and Jean will be missed by niece April Christie and great nephew Andrew Billingsley of Tennessee, the Skare family, and many golf friends including Roger’s special friends Pastor Dean Brown and Dale Anderson.

A joint Memorial Service for Roger William Skare and Wilma “Jean” Skare will be held Friday, September 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home. Pastor Dean Brown will officiate.

A visitation will be held Friday, September 18 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

A joint inurnment for Roger & “Jean” Skare will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Monday, October 12 at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please give a memorial to a charity of your choice.
