Gunderson qualifies for Nationals
Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg alum Coy Gunderson will represent the Augustana wrestling program at the NCAA Championships after winning the 174-pound bracket at the Super Region V in the RA Facility at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
Throughout the season, the former KMS Saint has a 19-5 record with two pins, seven tech falls and three major decisions.
Gunderson received a bye in the first round and his first match of the Super Region V tournament was against Damen Pape from Northern State and earned a competitive 4-2 decision win. In the semifinals of the 174-pound bracket, he pulled off a sudden victory over Bryce Dagel from St. Cloud State University to qualify for nationals. Already qualified for the NCAA Championships, Gunderson put the cherry on top with a 10-9 decision win over Drake Hayward from Minnesota State University to earn the 174-pound crown.
Gunderson will compete in the NCAA Championships held at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. March 13-14.
