Duncan and Helms win Section 3A doubles title and state berth

Senior Hannah Helms and sophomore Elise Duncan became the third doubles’ team at Benson or Benson-KMS to earn a berth at the State Girls Tennis Tournament.  Helms and Duncan won the Section 3A Individual Doubles’ Tourney with four-straight wins despite coming as the sixth seed.

Duncan, who is 7-17 overall this year playing mostly first singles, and Helms, who is 15-10 playing mostly second singles, will open up state action Thursday (tomorrow) and Friday at the Read-Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

Mackenzie Weber and Abby Fragodt were the first to qualify to state doubles in 2006 and 2007 for the Benson or Benson-KMS girls tennis program, placing fourth and third overall during the Class A Tourney, while Lauren Alsaker and Catherine James qualified to state doubles in 2009, going 1-2 at state...
