Benson/KMS tennis start season with 7-0 sweep over St. Cloud Cathedral/St. Johns Prep
Starting the 2024 boys tennis season, the Benson/KMS boys spent nearly as much time shoveling and clearing the tennis courts as they did practicing. The team was finally able to get their season officially started last week when they went on the road to play St. Cloud Cathedral/St. Johns Prep on April 4. The team could not have started much better. The boys only lost one set in their seven matches and pulled off a dominant 7-0 win to start the season in style.
Blake Brehmer played the top singles spot and pulled off a 6-4, 6-0 win over Mason Grove. Max Young added another win for Benson/KMS with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Jackson Hoover at No. 2 singles. Alex Carlson kept the streak going for Benson/KMS with a 6-3, 6-0 win over William Reisinger at No. 3 singles. Harold Habben made it four straight set wins in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Eli Burnham.
Logan Schauer and Isaac Carlson had the top spot in doubles and blew out Jackson Glomski and Ben St. Hilare 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 doubles, the Benson/KMS team of Joey Wilcox and Brandon Sondag earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over Paul Rademacher and Boothe Everett-Towner. The No. 3 doubles match was the closest contest out of all seven matches. The Benson/KMS team of Carson Petrak and Antoni Grinievin lost 6-3 in the first set against Parker Pan and Caiden Danielson. Petrak and Grinievin turned things around with 7-6 (5), 10-4 wins in the final two sets to complete the clean sweep for Benson/KMS in their first competition.
The team played their second match of the season on the road against Montevideo on April 9. The next match on the schedule will be the home opener for Benson/KMS against Minnewaska Area in Benson on Thursday, April 11.
