KMS tops Royalton 29-8 to earn title and top seed

The KMS football team earned co-share of the Mid-State Blue sub-district title after knocking off previously-unbeaten Royalton, Friday night in Murdock, 29-8. The Saints and Royalton both finished the sub-district schedule with 6-1 records and KMS also improved to 7-1 overall to claim the top seed in the upcoming Section 4A Football Tournament.
Dylan Rudningen ran 40 times for 171 yards and four touchdowns, giving him 1,762 yards for the season and 28 touchdowns.
The Saints surprisingly dominated the Royals, despite going into halftime tied at 8-8. KMS held a 276-105 edge in total yards and 20-6 in first downs, keyed most by a 4-0 advantage in turnovers.
Finishing third in the sub-district were Upsala-Swanville Area and Kimball Area (both 4-3), while Browerville-Eagle Valley and Parkers Prairie were tied for fifth with 3-4 records, New York Mills was seven at 2-5, and BBE was 0-7.
The Saints were set to open up the Section 4A playoffs at 7 p.m., Tuesday (yesterday) in Murdock against winless BBE, seeded eighth. Should KMS get by that game, it would play again Saturday against the winner of the USA-Kimball Area game in Murdock.
Lester Prairie-Holy Trinity beat Mayer Lutheran in the regular-season finale to move up to second seed and knock ML from a tie with KMS for first. The Section 4A championship game is set for 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2 at St. John’s University....
