Benson/KMS girls runner-up, boys fifth at WCC meet

The Benson / Kerkhoven - Murdock - Sunburg girls track and field team finished in second place while the boys had a fifth-place finish at the West Central Conference track and field meet Tuesday, May 16, in Montevideo.
The Minnewaska girls and Sauk Centre boys claimed team titles. The Laker girls tallied 162.1 points while Benson/KMS finished with 104, just two points ahead of third-place finishing Melrose. The Sauk Centre boys posted 179 points with Montevideo scoring 137.5 for second overall.
The Fighting Braves had a combined 16 top three finishes with the girls recording 13 of them.
Ava Noble won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.13 and finished third in the 300-meter hurdles in 48.91.
Carly Tolifson won the 200-meter dash in 26.89 and the high jump with a 5-02 while also earning a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash in 12.79.
The girls 4x100-meter relay broke a school record as they won the conference title. The foursome of Libby McGeary, Noble, Julia Claussen and Tolifson ran a 51.74, which was two-tenths better than runner-up from BOLD/BLH.
