Orlo Aldean Quame, 89, of Benson, Minnesota, died  Saturday, September 30, 2023, at his home in Benson. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2023, at the Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service in the Benson City Cemetery.

Orlo Aldean Quame was born July 21, 1934, in Rake, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Mabel Oswald Quame. He grew up in Rake, Iowa and graduated from Rake High School. He then attended college at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa and at St. Olaf in Northfield, Minnesota. Orlo earned his master’s degree in education from St. Cloud State University.

Orlo served his country by enlisting in the United States Army from 1957 to 1963.

June 8, 1971, Orlo was united in marriage to Diane Kay Nelson at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls, Minnesota. They made their home in Benson, where he taught Science for Benson Schools. He loved teaching! His biology class was well known throughout the state and even the country. Several school districts consulted with him on biology curriculum. Orlo left an impression among thousands of students over his 30+ year teaching career. He influenced many students to pursue careers in the Science and Medical fields. The hobbies he enjoyed were woodworking, fishing, and attending his son’s activities. He was a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church.

Orlo was called from this life Saturday morning, September 30, 2023, at his home north of Benson. He attained the age of 89 years, two months, and 22 days. He is survived by his wife; Diane of Benson, his son; Kevin and his wife Betsy Quame of Chandler, Arizona, and two grandchildren; Brooklynn and Brandt. He was preceded in death by his parents Mabel and Elmer.
