Luverne 'Vern' Hallberg
Luverne D. “Vern” Hallberg was born November 3, 1929, in Kerkhoven Township, Minnesota, the eldest son of Bernice and Hjalmer Hallberg. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Luverne spent his childhood on the farm and learning carpentry skills from his father, attending elementary school in Murdock and later moving to Benson and graduating from Benson High School. After serving in the National Guard, Luverne married Vivian Himley of Benson in 1952, and they moved to Minneapolis. They were blessed with three daughters: the first, Venee Ann, who lived only a few months in 1953, followed by Darcy in 1958 and Jan in 1960. Luverne worked as a carpenter, later becoming a commercial construction project superintendent with Kraus-Anderson. After retiring, he enjoyed golfing with friends and visiting family in California.
Luverne and Vivian were married for 62 years, until she passed away in 2015. Luverne passed away peacefully April 7, at the age of 94 years, five months, and four days. He is survived by daughters Darcy and Jan, grandson Tim, sister-in-law Ethel Mae Hallberg, nieces Priscilla Philbrick Richardson and Robin Philbrick Brady, and nephews Steven Philbrick and David Hallberg.
Luverne is preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and Hjalmer Hallberg, parents-in-law Anna and George Himley, brother DuWayne Hallberg, daughter Venee Ann, sister-in-law Lorraine Philbrick, and brother-in-law Maynard Philbrick.
