School board raises salaries for first time in 5 years

Based on the recommendation of Sup. Dennis Laumeyer, the District 777 Board of Education voted 4 to 3 to raise board member annual salaries by $100 a year at its Jan. 9 meeting.

The raise takes their annual salary from $1,700 to $1,800. It was the first raise for school board members in five years. The board left the chair’s salary at $1,200 and the clerk’s at $1,000. 

The clerk and chair’s salaries, which are in addition to their regular board pay, haven’t been raised since the 2001-2002 school year. The superintendent and the board chair have regular discussions about issues facing the district outside of meeting times. The clerk works closely with the school board election process and its secretary seeing that required forms are signed.

The board salaries were raised from $1,000 to $1,700 in 2018 but at the same time the per meeting additional pay for long meetings and special school board meetings was dropped.
