Charles Edward Smith Obituary

Charles Edward Smith, 79, of Sierra Vista, Arizona was called from this life Tuesday morning, October 3, 2023, at the Canyon Vista Medical Center.

Charles was born October 24, 1943, in Graceville, MN, the son of Francis “Doc” and Margaret (Clark) Smith.  Following his graduation from Benson High School, Charles attended the University of Minnesota -Morris.

Charles lived in Windom, MN where he worked as an insurance adjuster.  He moved to Montana in 1978 where he worked for Dan Vogel Trucking hauling livestock and was also employed by the Huntley Project Irrigation District.  Charlie would bartend part-time  and later became the owner of the Square Butte Bar and Country Club in Square Butte, Montana.

Charlie moved to Sierra Vista the fall of 2009.

He enjoyed his days on the golf course, trips, and time spent with friends and family.

Charles is survived by daughter Heidi (Jeremy) Ledbetter  of Hamilton, AL; daughter-in-law, Sue Smith of Benson, MN; grandchildren, Dylan Smith, Jenna Smith, Brianna Ledbetter, Kara (Zac) Layne, Ethan Ledbetter, Jaxson Ledbetter;  brother Bill (Elmira) Smith of Carroll, IA, and sisters-in-law  Alice Smith of Baxter, MN and Jean Smith of Clarks Grove, MN; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott C. Smith; brothers, Glen “Pat” Smith and Bob Smith.
