MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 777, Benson, Minnesota Monday, March 09, 2020 - 5:30 p.m. Benson High School Media Center

The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chair Brian Samuelson at Northside Elementary for a tour of the Northside construction. Meeting recessed at 5:28 p.m.
The meeting resumed at the BHS Media Center at 5:35 p.m. by Chair Brian Samuelson.  Members present:  Jim Berens, Bill McGeary, Mary KW Langan, Eric Peterson, Brian Samuelson, Paul Carruth, and Gary Williams.  Members absent: None.
Under Construction, add 7.1.2 Construction Manager & General Contractor to the Agenda.
Agenda approved.
Citizens Comments: Mark Hughes talked about the importance of transporting students. Keep lights clean and keep students safe.
Consent Agenda approved.
Progress Reports presented by administrators.
Board Committee Reports: Administration Committee met with the BEA for a negotiation session; Budget Committee reviewed the FY21 budget.
Construction Update: Ryan Brietbach, Construction Manager, provided a construction and budget update. Supt. Laumeyer presented items that have been identified as projects to complete. The board approved Architects Rego & Youngquist to get prices before moving forward with these items.
Construction Manager and General Contractor for Gymnastics: The board approved going with a Construction Manager for the gymnastics/activity space.
Gymnastics/Activity Space:  Supt. Laumeyer presented a revised floor plan layout that is 82’X144’.  The board approved to have the architects complete drawings and specs for a steel building that is 82’ wide (East to West) and 144’ long (North to South) with bathrooms and changing rooms on the north end for the gymnastics/activity space.
Approved the 2020-2021 SWWC Membership Agreement.
Approved the SWWC HGR Contract.
Approved policies 301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306 based on changes recommended by MSBA to meet law. The only recommended change is in policy 303.
Approved BHS Registration Guide 2020-2021.
Election Judges: The board approved the Resolution Appointing Election Judges for the April 14, 2020 School District Special Election.
Snow Day:  The district had a snow day on February 12, 2020.  The board approved forgiving the February 12, 2020 student day and allow staff to use the 8 hours to pack and move materials due to the construction project.

Superintendent Mid Year Evaluation:  The board went into closed session for purposes of completing the mid-year evaluation of the superintendent. The board went into closed session at 7:25 p.m. The closed session ended at 8:06 p.m.
