Larry Dean Howard passed away July 2, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Dean was born December 17, 1947 to Shirley “Stub” Howard and Delores “Dodi” (Jacobson) Howard of Benson, Minnesota. Dean grew up along with his brothers and sisters in the Montevideo area. He was drafted and served in the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970. He worked for Hancock Concrete in Hancock, Minnesota for 40+ years and enjoyed his time there very much. Dean met Myrtle (Mills) Hilleren and they had a strong partnership that spanned over 40 years. Together they have one daughter, Rebecca and two granddaughters; Savannah and Sophia of Leawood, Kansas. Dean enjoyed fishing, boating, football, baseball, ice cream, going for walks, going for drives, swimming, listening to music, traveling with his daughter and her family, visiting with his brothers, sisters and cousins and any time spent in the company of his two granddaughters, as they were his greatest joy.
Many people may not know that Dean loved thunderstorms and the sound of rain, he loved geography and maps of any kind, he enjoyed balloons that were perfect for a game of volley, and listening to his record collection on a snowy day. His favorite trip was to the Cape Cod/New England area and he loved the history there. He loved Sunday drives and a cold beer. He loved teasing those closest to him, he had a quick wit about him and he was an original in every way.
Dean is survived by his spouse, Myrtle Hilleren of Benson; his daughter and son-in-law Rebecca and Justin Stoltman of Leawood, KS and two granddaughters Savannah and Sophia Stoltman of Leawood, KS. He is also survived by his sisters: Patti (and Delmont) Nokleby of Montevideo, Andi (and Jim) Hoage of Bruce, WI, Candi (and Rick) Skare of Benson, and his brothers: Gary (and RaeDawn) Howard of Powell, WY, Mike (and Jane) Howard of Benson, Steve “Howie” (and Mary) Howard of Benson and by many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sisters. Blessed be his memory.
