MPCA responds to comments

Correction: In our story last week with the headline “Not all farmers, rural residents pleased with MPCA Riverview decision,” we mistakenly used a subhead above the news release information provided by the Minnesota Farmers Union that said “Farm Bureau.” We want to assure our readers that it was the Farmers Union, not the Farm Bureau, that was opposed to the MPCA ruling.
The whole story referred to the Farmers Union and quoted its president. Just the subhead referred to the Farm Bureau, and was misleading.
The Farm Bureau and the Farmers Union are Minnesota’s two largest farmer organizations, but they can have distinct , individual, agendas and outlooks on issues.
During the public comment period regarding the requirement for an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for Riverview LLP’s expansion of its West River Dairy facility, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency received 1,314 comments from community members.
It also received 60 comments related to the feedlot permit and two from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
