Margaret Mary Voorhees, 93, of Danvers, Minnesota, died Friday, May 24, 2024, at Centra Care Health – Benson Hospital in Benson, Minnesota. Visitation and lunch will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2024, at McKinney’s on Southside in Benson. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Church of the Visitation Catholic Church in Danvers. Burial will be in the Church of the Visitation Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family to be used toward a memorial at the Swift County Fair in Margaret’s name.
Margaret was born November 30, 1930, in Benson, the daughter of Joseph and Jeanette (Schnitzler) Nagler. She was baptized and confirmed at Church of the Visitation in Danvers. Margaret grew up in Danvers and attended country school. She lived and worked on the family farm. She taught country school for a number of years.
August 20, 1953, Margaret was united in marriage to Leonard Gordon Voorhees at Church of Visitation in Danvers, by Father Doerrer. Together they were blessed with over 63 years of marriage and raised two sons: Kevin and Craig.
Margaret was a 4-H volunteer leader at the local, regional, and state 4-H levels. She served on various boards: Swift County American Dairy Association, Minnesota Guernsey Association, Swift County Benson Hospital Board, and Swift County Zoning Board. Margaret enjoyed gardening – both flower and vegetable – lawn care, baking, canning, fixing lunches and meals for her family. Margaret especially enjoyed time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren
Margaret is survived by her two sons: Kevin (Kim) Voorhees of Benson, and Craig (Celeste) Voorhees of Murdock; five grandchildren: Dustin (Erin) Voorhees, Andy (Lyndsie) Voorhees, Chelsea (Nick) Lundberg, Kaylee (Jake) Ascheman, and Cole Voorhees; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Bev Nagler of Benson, and brother-in-law Ward Voorhees of Morris.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Voorhees, infant twin sons, parents Joseph and Jeanette Nagler, brother Donald Nagler, and sister Dorothy Killingsworth.
