We’re all in this together

We still face a long road ahead, but we’ll get through this together.

The COVID-19 outbreak has hit us many ways, and I especially feel for people in the medical field, parents with kids or expecting children, other front-line workers, and finally, students, especially the older students who won’t get this year and memories back again.

We can get through this, but we have to continue to work together.  And, we’re starting to see a little more light at the end of the tunnel.

The cancellations keep coming; We Day Basketball game, the “Little Mermaid” musical, the BHS Jazz Concert and MIOSM Choir Concert, the annual Dance recital, the community Easter Egg hunt, the mock drill for students, Emerald Eve, Prom, and more.

Still up in the air are musical concerts in May, BHS and KMS graduation, spring sports, the Memorial Day parade, and much more yet to come.

It seems like every day we hear more bad news, more stories of illness and death, and more dire predictions of the havoc the COVID-19 outbreak will bring to our communities.

Relax, take a deep breath, and remember we will get through this together.

•  It was especially tough for me Thursday, April 2 as I thought about being out at Chiefs Field and Brock Field to take pictures of the Benson baseball and Benson-KMS track openers.

Spring is always my favorite time to take pictures, since I get to be outside, and there is such a variety of sports to watch.  However, as soon as I start to feel sorry for myself, I remember the student-athletes and I remember all the people that are really going trough misery with COVID-19.

My job at the Monitor-News entails me living by the clock and calendar.  I always say I have to review what has already happened, make sure people know what’s currently going on, and also outline what will be taking place in the future.

I’m always glued to my calendar and with what’s going on in the community.  When I begin each week, I know which events I’ll be covering, which events I need to report on, and which events need to be highlighted for the future.

There is no planning ahead any more; it’s more like living day-to-day, and just praying that things will get better.  And times will get better for all of us as we get through this together...
