Use of county funds to assist day care operations lagging

In recent years, Swift County has been setting aside $50,000 to assist day care facilities with improving their homes, providing educational curriculum and equipment, and making safety improvements.

That funding has helped them meet state standards but also upgrade the quality of the facilities available to families in the county.

Funding day care facilities is also seen as essential economic development. Employers in Swift County see affordable and available day care essential to their ability to recruit new employees. It is also essential to keeping women in the workforce.

However, Swift County is now looking at reducing its budgeted amount for the day care fund with few drawings from it.

So far in 2021, only $13,738 had been spent out of the fund through the end of July. In 2019, it spent just over $38,000...
