Terryl Stroebel
March 17, 1944 • March 10, 2025
Terryl Timothy (“Butch”) Stroebel was born March 17, 1944 in Dunnell, Minnesota, the son of Julius and Esther (Friesenborg) Stroebel. He was the fourth of seven children. He was baptized May 28, 1944, in Dunnell.
Terry received his nickname “Butch” very early in life. His father ran a locker plant in Dunnell and was known as “big Butch” and Terry was known as “little Butch”. He has been known as Butch his entire life. Terry passed away March 10, 2025, in Glendale, AZ.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, June 14, 2025, at McKinney’s in Benson, Minnesota.
Terry and his family moved to Iowa in 1946 and later moved to Minnesota in 1956. He attended country school one mile from the farm, and he later attended Benson High School where he graduated in 1962. He joined the Army National Guard after graduation. In 1966, while attending his annual training at Camp Ripley he ventured into Brainerd. This is where he met his future wife.
Terry and Judy were married September 9, 1967, at St Francis Church, Brainerd, Minnesota. To this union three girls were born, Katherine, Kristin and Karen.
Farming was always a big part of Terry’s life. First, growing up on the farm, then farming with his brothers Merle and Maurice after graduation, and more recently riding along with Mike, Pat, Nicholas and others in his retirement years.
In 1974, Terry and Judy moved to the farm near Holloway to raise their family. They resided at the farm until Spring of 2024. Here, he enjoyed milking cows for many years, raising stock cows, hogs and many other farm animals. Building a custom made, 4-wheel drive tractor with his brothers was a source of great pride and accomplishment for him in his younger years. As his nephew Cory recently said, “he was one of a kind, and could fix anything.”
Terry is survived by his loving wife, Judy; his daughters: Kathy (Al) Zobrist of Mason City, IA, Kristin Madigan (Jeff Brown) of Pine City, MN, Karen Stroebel (Daniel Kelling) Braham, MN. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Tristan Marthaler, Brody Marthaler, Karissa Madigan and Camden Madigan; his sisters: Noreen (Owen) Schuerman and Julie Twitchell; brothers-in-law Tom (LaVonne) Paulson, Ron (Pat) Paulson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Esther; two sisters in infancy, Mary Jane and Clarice; brothers: Merle and Maurice; mother and father-in-law Rose and Edward Paulson; brother-in-law, Randy Twitchell and son-in-law, Cody Madigan.
