Jim was born as the only child to Leonard & Hulda “Helen” Thursby in Porter, Minnesota.  He graduated from Benson High School in 1943 and then joined the Army.  He served in the Pacific during WWII.  After the war he returned to Benson to work at his Dad’s business (Thursby Chevrolet).  

In 1947,  he met his wife Elinor from Montevideo.  They had three children: Bob Thursby of Sarasota, Florida, Tom Thursby of San Diego, & Debra (Thursby) Burns of San Diego.  

Jim was a lifelong golfer and was president of the Benson Golf Course 1952-53.  In 1956, the family moved to San Diego, CA.  They raised their children in San Diego.  In the 1960s, he managed and coached several teams for Tecolote Little League.  He helped expand and build the many baseball fields there.  He worked for San Diego County Social Services and retired at age 55.

The funeral service for Alda Mae Anderson, 90, of Granite Falls, formerly of Echo, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016, at the Rock Valle Lutheran Church in Rural Echo.  Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo.  Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the church on Friday.  Interment will follow the service at the Rock Valle Cemetery in Rural Echo.

Louise (Ludovica) Clara Lachmiller was born December 17, 1927 in Edison Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Louis (Ludovicus) and Teresa (Rudnick) Glisky.  She was baptized on December 24, 1927 by Rev. S. Julkowski and confirmed at the Church of the Visitation in Danvers.  Louise grew up in the Holloway, Appleton, and Edison Township area.  She then moved to Danvers and attended Benson High School, graduating in 1945.

Leonard Gordon Voorhees, age 90, was born on April 9, 1925 on the family farm in Swenoda Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the son of Henry S. and Ethel B. (Huston) Voorhees. He was baptized and confirmed and grew up on the family farm near Danvers. He attended school at District #34 in Swenoda Township. Leonard served his country during WWII in the United States Army from May 14, 1945 to November 26, 1946.

LuVerne Simonson, age 80, of Benson, died on Monday morning, March 21, 2016, at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 26, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, with the Rev. Gary Brandenburg officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church on Saturday. Burial will follow the service at the Lake Hazel Cemetery, rural Benson.

LuVerne Simonson, age 80, was born on July 22, 1935, in Camp Lake Township, the son of Karney and Inez (Loen) Simonson. He was baptized in 1935 at Immanuel Lutheran Church and in 1951 he was confirmed by the Rev Nasheim. He attended grade school at District # 54 and graduated from Benson High School in 1954.

LeRoy Schliep, 96, of Appleton, Minnesota died Sunday, March 13, 2016 in the Appleton Area Health Services - Hospital.  

Funeral services were Wednesday, March 16, at Trinity Lutheran Church –Fairfield Township, officiated by Rev. Donald Klatt.  Burial followed in the Appleton City Cemetery.  

LeRoy was born November 6, 1919 on the family farm outside of Holloway, Minnesota.  He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairfield where he was baptized  December 21, 1919 and was confirmed  March 25, 1934.   

He married Dorothy Bartz  September 18, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway.   LeRoy’s love and respect for Dorothy was a testament to true love and together they enjoyed 69 years of blessed marriage.  Their marriage was a true partnership and an inspiration to all around them.

Emily Munstermann, 96, of Appleton, Minnesota died Tuesday, March 9 at the  Appleton Area Health Services - Care Center.  

Funeral services were Saturday, March 12 at 11 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Shible Township, officiated by Rev. Donald Klatt.  Burial followed at 2 p.m.  Saturday in the Appleton City Cemetery.

Emily Clara Munstermann was born August 8, 1919, in Shible Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry F. and Clara (Mumme) Koosmann.  She was baptized September 7, 1919 and was confirmed April 9, 1933, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Shible Township.  Emily attended Christian day school at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Shible Township through the eighth grade.

October 10, 1940, Emily was united in marriage to Elmer Munstermann.  This union was blessed with over 54 years together and seven sons: Leonard, Wayne, Kenneth, James, Bruce, Glenn, and Stanley.

Marilyn Hoffman, age 76 of Appleton, formerly of rural Danvers, died Tuesday, March 15th, in Appleton Area Health Services –Care Center.  Funeral services were Monday, March 21st, at 1:30PM, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holloway, officiated by Rev. Donald Klatt.  Burial followed at the Appleton City Cemetery.

 

Marilyn Carol Hoffman was born December 19, 1939, in Benson, MN, the daughter of Ferdinand and Helen (Schroeder) Schuerman.  She was baptized on January 7, 1940, by Rev. Wachholz and was confirmed March 29, 1953 by Rev. Krull, both at St. John’s Lutheran, Holloway, MN. Marilyn was raised in the Holloway area, graduating from Holloway High School in 1957.

Duane Banister

  Duane Banister, 84, of Benson, died Sunday, March 6, 2016 at home.  Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 14, 2016 at the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson.  Visitation was held two hours prior to the service.  Interment was in the Benson City Cemetery.

Duane Banister was born May 21, 1931 on the family farm in Stevens County, Minnesota, the son of Harry Herlas and Julia F. (Gunderson) Banister. Later, they moved to a farm in Hoff Township, Pope County. He was confirmed at West Zion Lutheran Church. He attended grade school at District #57 in Hoff Township and graduated from Hancock High School in Hancock, Minnesota with the Class of 1949.

From 1951 to 1954, Duane spent his time in the U.S. Army where he was admitted into the Army Security Agency. He spent 18 months on the island of Oahu, Hawaii repairing Army teletype machines.

Frances Jensen, 79, of Appleton, Minnesota (formerly of Holloway) died March 11, 2016 at the Appleton Area Health Services –Care Center.  Funeral services were Thursday, March 17, at Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton, officiated by Rev. Michelle Rowell.  Burial followed at the Appleton City Cemetery.  
Frances Pauline Jensen was born January 24, 1937, in Benson, Minnesota, the daughter of Ferdinand and Ida (Carlson) Johnson.  She was baptized April 18, 1937, Rev. Arthur Chell and was confirmed July 29, 1951 by Rev. J. Swedeberg, both at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson.  Fran was raised in the Benson area, graduating from Benson High School in 1955.
