Gary Richard Trew, 54, formerly of Benson

Gary Richard Trew, 54, husband of Diane Patrice Trew, passed away suddenly at Cape Charles Marina in Cape Charles,Virginia aboard the C.C. Rider Sunday, April 7, 2013.
He was a resident of Benson, Minnesota but spent some of his retirement in Cape Charles as Captain of the C.C. Rider.
Gary was born October 22, 1958 in Flint, Michigan and was the son of the late Burley William Trew and Eeva Heinonen Trew.
Other than his spouse, he is survived by four sons: Shawn William Trew of Richmond, VA, Kyle Douglas Trew of Long Valley, NJ, Jacob Burley Trew of Alexandria, Minnesota, David Marion Trew of Benson; a daughter, Hillary Rose Trew of Long Island, NJ; two brothers, Mark William Trew of West Palm Beach, FL, Lee Stevens Trew of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Lea Suzette Trew Porter, of Raleigh, NC; also several nieces and nephews.

Marcella E. Commerford, 92, of Benson

Marcella E. Commerford, 92, of Benson passed away  Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the Golden Living Center – Meadow Lane in Benson.  
Mass of Christian Burial was 11:00 a.m.  Monday, April 15, 2013, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in DeGraff with Father William Sprigler officiating.  
Burial was in St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery.
Marcella Elizabeth (Payne) Commerford was born  March 9, 1921, in Grace Township, Chippewa County, to George Walter and Marjorie (Cronen) Payne.  She was baptized  April 4, 1921 at the Church of St. Bridget in DeGraff, Minnesota.  She was confirmed  July 9, 1933 by Archbishop Murray at the Church of St. Bridget.  Marcella grew up in Grace Township in Chippewa County.  She attended District 56 Chippewa County School through the eighth grade and graduated from Benson High School in 1939.

Donald A. Grussing, 56, of Benson

 Donald A. Grussing, 56, of Benson died  Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
A Funeral Mass was held  Wednesday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m., at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson.  
Donald Alan Grussing was born to Alma (Hess) and John Grussing July 11, 1956 in Benson, Minnesota.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Francis Catholic Church.  Donald grew up and attended school in Benson.  
August 10, 1978, he was united in marriage to Jill Susette Sadergaski.  Together, they were able to share in more than 34 years of marriage and the union was blessed with two children and three grandchildren.  Donald worked at Loral and then at Case.  
Among the things he enjoyed were old cars, spending time with the grandchildren, and visiting with family and friends.    He also liked spending time in his garage, hunting when able, and he enjoyed horses and dogs.

Jason James Nordaune, 36, of Rochester, (formerly of Benson)

Jason James Nordaune, 36, of Rochester, (formerly of Benson) died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at his home after a brief battle with cancer.
A private family service was  held Wednesday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Rochester.
Jason was born April 6, 1976 in Benson, Minnesota. He graduated from St. John’s University in Collegeville with a B.A. in Studio Art. Jason ran his own marketing and design business, Brilliant Marketing, but most of all loved taking care of his three girls.
Jason is survived by his wife, Beth, and their two children: Ava (7) and Laurel (5 ½); his parents, Sandra and James Nordaune of Benson; his siblings, Adam and Trisha; and his grandmother, Bernice Nordaune.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Betty Lou and Donald Kepner; and Elvin Nordaune.

Anna Mae Peterson, 85, of Willmar

Anna Mae Peterson, 85, of Willmar and formerly of Benson, died Monday, April 8, at Bethesda Pleasant View Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m.  Saturday, April 13 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.  
Memorials to Rice Hospice (www.ricehospice.com) or donor's choice are preferred.  
Anna Mae Backlund Peterson was born to Roy and Isabelle Rierson Backlund  October 8, 1927, in Litchfield, Minnesota.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Kandiyohi and attended Whittier School in Kandiyohi through the 8th grade before graduating from Willmar High School in 1945.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, in 1949.

Loretta M. Jacobson, age 86, Benson

Loretta Marian Jacobson, 87, of Benson, died Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Golden Living Center - Meadow Lane in Benson, Minnesota.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Thursday, December 12 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson with Rev. Paul Idstrom officiating.
Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, December 11 at the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson and also for one hour prior to the service at the church Thursday.
Loretta Marian Jacobson was born  June 2, 1926, in Benson, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Stella (Ecklund) Schirmer.  She grew up in the Benson area and graduated from Benson High School.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

DuWayne C. Halvorson, age 59, of Benson

DuWayne was born on September 15, 1954 and entered into his Lord’s arms on December 5, 2013 at the age of 59 years.
 
DuWayne was born to James and Cynthia (Craig) Halvorson in Benson, MN.  He was baptized at West Zion Lutheran Church; where he also was confirmed.  DuWayne attended the one-room schoolhouse in Clontarf, MN, for his early years of school and then went to public school in Benson.  He graduated from Benson High School in 1972.  He played some football in high school, but his favorite sport was basketball.
 
DuWayne farmed the family homestead in Clontarf with his family for all of his life.  He loved the farm and was blessed to always live and work on the farm.

Ryan Neil Svor, 30, Alexandria

Ryan Neil Svor was born March 10, 1983 in Alexandria, MN, the son of Warren and Lorri (Jacobson) Svor. He was raised in Alexandria where he graduated from Jefferson High School.

Ryan began working with low voltage cable; he worked for Northwoods Cable. At age twenty-five Ryan attended the Wadena Vocational Technical Institute and earned a degree in Electrical Lineworking Technology. Ryan Began working as a lineman for Highlines, Inc. out of Paynesville, MN. Ryan’s work took him to many different areas of the country. Following Hurricane Sandy in 2012 Ryan headed out east to begin repairing the damage to the electrical grid. Recently he was in the Rapid City area making repairs following the early snowstorm. Most of Ryan’s day-to-day work was in Iowa.

On August 18, 2012 Ryan was united in marriage to Kayla Mattocks at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The couple made their home in Carlos, MN.

Charles “Chuck” Ascheman, 53, of Clontarf

Charles Edward Ascheman, 53, of Benson, formerly of Clontarf, passed away  Saturday, November 16, 2013 at home.  
Mass of Christian burial was held  Friday, November 22, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Malachy Catholic Church in Clontarf.  Visitation was held for one hour prior to the service at the church.  Arrangements were with the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
Charles Edward Ascheman was born  June 18, 1960 in Benson, Minnesota, to Lyle and Beatrice (Hoberg) Ascheman.  Chuck attended school in Clontarf and later in Benson.  He worked at TCI, Case, Jennie-O foods, and for numerous farmers.  Chuck started his trucking business, Malachy Flats, and drove truck in North Dakota building roads on the oil fields.  Chuck also helped his brother-in-law, Ron Schade, doing some construction work.  He enjoyed hunting, trapping, and gardening.  Chuck also loved to spend time camping with friends and family on the home place.
