Jerry Anderson

The Zahrbock Funeral Home of Madison, announces the death of 59 year old Jerry Anderson of Canby, formerly of Madison, who passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the Sylvian Court Home in Canby. 

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2016 in the Chapel of the Zahrbock Funeral Home. Father Brian Oestreich will officiate. The concluding service and burial will take place in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Madison. The Anderson family will receive family and friends one hour before services on Tuesday in the funeral home.

Jerry Anderson is survived by three brothers; Tom and his wife Jerilyn Anderson of Montevideo, Jeff and his wife Deb Anderson of Rapid City, South Dakota and John Anderson of Mesa, AZ.  He is also survived by his sister Cheryl Anderson of Minneota and many nieces and nephews.

Velma was the third child to Frieda (Gaas) and Herman Vollmer, German immigrants who homesteaded their farm in Holloway, Minnesota. She graduated from Benson High School in 1946, and moved to Chicago, IL for two years to live with her maternal aunt, Martha, while working as a bookkeeper.

She returned to Minnesota to marry Sylvester (Skip) Gunderson from DeGraff (the man her brother Bill introduced her to when she was 14 years old). After Skip’s discharge from the Navy, following WWII, they settled in Bloomington, built their home and raised their three children. Val remained in the family home for 65 years until her death.

Val worked as a property manager in the 1950’s giving her the experience she needed to maintain their house and duplex (income property) Skip built before his death in 1966.

Evelyn Ellison, 93, formerly of Swift County, died Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California.

She was born  September 27, 1922, the daughter of Albert and Hannah (Roget) Thompson.

Evelyn is survived by a sister, Delores Roehl, of Apple Valley, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Thompson of Benson, Minnesota and Betty Thompson of Bloomington, Minnesota; sons, James (Margery) Ellison of Goodyear, AZ, Kenneth Ellison of Arkansas City, KS, and Stanley Ellison of Elk River, Minnesota; daughters, Doreen (Brad) Meyers of Dayton, Minnesota, Deborah Vail of Indio, CA, Julie (Shawn) Halvorson of San Diego, CA, and Cynthia Ellison of El Cajon, CA; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Karen was born on October 14, 1941, near Murdock, Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Orville and Adora (Rice) Quale.  She grew up in Swift County, and graduated from Kerkhoven High School in 1959.

Charlene Clare Hunter passed away peacefully Saturday,  February 13, 2016 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 17 (today), at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, West Des Moines, Iowa.  The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 16 at Iles-Westover Chapel,   6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines Iowa.

Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Charlene was born February 5, 1934, in Danvers, Minnesota, to Daniel Leo and Clara (Dolan)   Connolly.  She married Robert (Bob) A. Hunter  August 2, 1958 at the Church of the Visitation in Danvers.

Willard Chauncey “Bill” Knutson was born  January 28, 1922 in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Carl and Emma (Olson) Knutson.  He was baptized  April 30, 1922 and confirmed  December 16, 1955 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church.  Bill lived most of his whole life in the family home on 13th Street North.
