Master Sergeant Arnold Robert Rode, 81, of St. Francis, Minnesota, died  Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Fergus Falls.

A Memorial Service was held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. Pastor Timothy Vaughn officiated.

Arnold was born  June 21, 1934 to Rudolf and Martha (Papstein) Rode in Lynch, Nebraska. He graduated from Benson High School in 1951.

August 8, 1954, he was married to Claudia Elaine Pederson in Appleton.

Carolyn N. Pederson, 91, of Benson, Minnesota died  Tuesday afternoon, April 12, 2016, at the Glenwood Retirement Village.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m.  Friday, April 15, 2016 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. Visitation was  held from 7-9 p.m.  Thursday, April 14, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson and continued  Friday for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Carolyn N. Kjera was born February 18, 1925 to Johannes J. and Sophie Regina (Hippe) Kjera on the home farm in New Prairie Township, Pope County, just across the field from St. John’s Church; where she was baptized, confirmed and married by Rev. G. O. Forde. She attended District 74 country school, graduated from Starbuck High School, and earned a teaching certificate from Glenwood Normal Training.

Anna Mary Carr, 105, of New Hampton, Iowa died peacefully at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center early Tuesday morning, April 5, 2016.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.  Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton with Father Mark Osterhaus officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with her grandsons, Bob Carr, Dave Carr, Dr. Pete Peraud, Dr. Dominic Peraud, Mike Carr and Dr. Mathew Luzum serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters, Dr. Barb Boeding, Jane Paulus, Sue Jennings, Ann Peraud Cooke, Dr. Cathy Bedford, Karen Southern, Michele Cameron, Elizabeth Luzum, Paula Sarsland, Dr. Amy Edman, Jennifer Dziedzic and Kathleen Catlett.

Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home announces the death of Twyla Hinneberg, 91, of Ortonville, Minnesota, who died Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Northridge Residence.

Funeral services were held at First English Lutheran Church  Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 11 a.m. Rev. David Tonn officiated and burial was in Mound Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday, April 1, from 5-7 p.m. at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville with a prayer service at 7. Visitation continued one hour prior to services at the church.

Music was provided by Marilyn Hanson, organist, and Nancy Hilleran, vocalist. Casket bearers were Dave Johnson, Doug Olson, Glenn Berdan, Steve Stern, Kevin Andreason, and Duane Stoddard. Honorary bearers included Mary Lou Olson, Patricia “Trish” Collins, and the staff and residents of Northridge Residence.

U.S. Veteran David L. Haukos, 74, of Apple Valley, Minnesota passed away  March 29, 2016.

Mass of Christian Burial was held 11 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2016 at All Saints Catholic Church, 19795 Holyoke Ave., Lakeville. Visitation was one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery.

David was born and raised in the Clontarf area.

David was preceded in death by his father, Ordeman Haukos, and a brother and sister in infancy.

He is survived by his children: Monique (Mike) Bombard and Joshua (Alicia) Haukos; grandchildren: Cole, Carson, Luke, Maxwell and Beau; mother: Rita Erdmann of Benson; sisters: Jeanette Gosson and Marlene Berens, both of Benson.

Myrtle L. Holzheimer, 90, died Saturday, April 2, 2016 at her son’s home in Oostburg, Wisconsin under Hospice care.  

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Benson.  Visitation was held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and continued for one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial was in the Benson City Cemetery.  

Myrtle L. Holzheimer was born  November 8, 1925 in Pope County, Minnesota, the daughter of Luther and Mabel (Lee) Larson.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and grew up in rural Swift Falls on the family farm.  She attended country school in Swift County and graduated from Benson High School in 1943.

Jim was born as the only child to Leonard & Hulda “Helen” Thursby in Porter, Minnesota.  He graduated from Benson High School in 1943 and then joined the Army.  He served in the Pacific during WWII.  After the war he returned to Benson to work at his Dad’s business (Thursby Chevrolet).  

In 1947,  he met his wife Elinor from Montevideo.  They had three children: Bob Thursby of Sarasota, Florida, Tom Thursby of San Diego, & Debra (Thursby) Burns of San Diego.  

Jim was a lifelong golfer and was president of the Benson Golf Course 1952-53.  In 1956, the family moved to San Diego, CA.  They raised their children in San Diego.  In the 1960s, he managed and coached several teams for Tecolote Little League.  He helped expand and build the many baseball fields there.  He worked for San Diego County Social Services and retired at age 55.

The funeral service for Alda Mae Anderson, 90, of Granite Falls, formerly of Echo, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016, at the Rock Valle Lutheran Church in Rural Echo.  Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo.  Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the church on Friday.  Interment will follow the service at the Rock Valle Cemetery in Rural Echo.
