Funeral Services celebrating the life of Maurice Telford Knutson, 95 of Benson will be Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at East Zion Lutheran Church in rural Starbuck. Reverend Jackie Haverstine will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the East Zion Cemetery.

Karin Ruth Hartzell was born May 28, 1967 to Richard and Phyllis Hartzell in Benson Minnesota. She grew up in Benson and attended Benson High School. Karin played saxophone in the band, played on the volleyball team, was a cheerleader, played piano, sang in the choir, and life guarded and taught swimming lessons at the Benson pool. Karin also worked in her dad’s print shop doing special projects with her sisters. She graduated in 1985 from Benson High School. Karin attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota for one year, then she transferred to Mankato State University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business marketing in 1990.

Stanley Harold Schliep, age 86, of Appleton, formerly of Holloway, died Friday, April 29th in Appleton Area Health Services –Care Center.  Funeral Services were Wednesday, May 4th at 10:30AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church –Fairfield Township, officiated by Rev. Donald Klatt.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Rice Hospice.

Pearl Ruby Gorvin Hanson, 79, passed away May 3, 2016 in Ogallala, NE, after a courageous battle with cancer.
 
Pearl was born June 30, 1936 in Lesterville, SD, to Roy and Alta Hermann. She graduated from Scotland (SD) High School and attended Ancker Hospital School of Nursing in St. Paul, graduating in 1957 as a Registered Nurse. She married Bernard Gorvin in 1958 and moved to Minneapolis where they were parents to 3 children. In 1974, they bought the Gambles Store in Kasson, MN., then moved to Northfield, MN., in 1980 where they owned Biagio’s deli until 1985, when they bought Let’s Party!, a party supply store in Owatonna, MN. Pearl also helped found the Steele County Hospice chapter.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016, at Calvary Community Church, 1200 Roosevelt Road, St. Cloud, for Beatrice L. Pearson who died early May 4, 2016, of natural causes at Quiet Oaks Hospice House, St. Augusta.  Pastor Steve Eckert will officiate. Private burial at Assumption Cemetery will follow. Visitation will be Sunday, May 8, 2016, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Calvary Community Church and again 1 hour prior to services.

Ronald J. Janke, 88, formerly of Benson, Minnesota passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in Halstead, Kansas.

Ronald was born  April 22, 1927 in nearby Glenwood. He served in the Navy at the end of WWII. He owned Ronnie's Shoe Store in Benson for 30 years.

After operating a Dairy Queen in Blaine, Minnesota, he retired (while still working part-time) to his birthplace, before finally relocating to Kansas.

Ronald was preceded in death by his children:  Barry and Pam, and grandson Casey.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Donna; his daughter and son, Trisha (Gene) Sulier and Bruce (Cynthia) Janke, both of Halstead, Kansas; his daughter-in-law Judy Janke of Blaine; and his eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Gladys I. Wildeboer, 96, of Benson, Minnesota died Monday afternoon, April 25, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Benson.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 28, at the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson.  Interment was in the Benson City Cemetery.  Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church.   

Gladys I. Wildeboer was born October 7, 1919, in Kensal, North Dakota, the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Wayne) Atchison.  She grew up in the Benson area, was baptized at West Zion Church, confirmed at St. Pauli Church in Swift Falls and received her education in the Benson schools.

Marion Jane Schliep, 84, of Appleton, Minnesota (formerly of Holloway)  died Saturday, April 23, 2016 in the Appleton Area Health Services - Care Center.  

Funeral services were Friday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church- Fairfield Township, officiated by Rev. Donald Klatt.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.  

Marion Jane Schliep was born July 10, 1931 to the late Ingvald and Eleanor (Paulson) Tofte.

She was baptized August 9, 1931 and was confirmed November 11, 1945 at her childhood church, Drywood Lutheran.  

Marion was raised in the Holloway and Appleton area.  She attended country school District #30 and later attended Appleton High School.  Her love of dancing introduced her to a handsome young man at a dance in Holloway.

Norma Fox, age 85, of rural Appleton, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 in her home.  A memorial gathering was held Saturday, April 30th at Zniewski Funeral Home –Vaala Chapel in Appleton.  It was Norma’s desire to be cremated and not have a funeral.  We, her family, are honoring her request. 

Norma Jane Converse, daughter of Martha E & Elmer E Converse was born July 21, 1930 in Walnut Grove, MN.  She graduated from Walnut Grove High School.  She was united in marriage to Lloyd Fox in 1948.  They lived in Minneapolis a short time before moving to Revere, MN to take over the farm.  They relocated in 1957 to the current Fox farm by Appleton, MN where she resided until she passed away peacefully on April 24, 2016.
