Benson-Don Neuhaus, 85, of Benson

Donald Lowell Neuhaus was born on October 28, 1927 in Swenoda Township, Minnesota to Emil John and Laura Christine (Larson) Neuhaus.  He was baptized on November 24, 1929 by Pastor Paul Priess and confirmed on May 4, 1941 by Pastor Erwinn Shroeder at St. John’s Church in Grace Township.  Donald grew up in Swenoda Township, and attended District #49 country school.  He served his country as a Seaman First Class in the United States Navy from March 1946 – December 1947.  On December 7, 1951, he was united in marriage to Ardis Vyonne Johnson by Rev. J. G. Swedberg at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson.  This union was blessed with more than 56 years of marriage, five children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.  Donald worked in Benson at Culligan Soft Water for 29 years, Johnson Fertilizer for 13 years, and farmed.  He was a member and served as Head Usher at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson.

Blanche Bartz, 98, Starbuck

Blanche died Saturday at the age of 98.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, at 2:00 p.m. at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck

Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday

Survivors include her daughter: Karen (Richard) Whitaker of Zumbrota; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and many relative and friends.

Shanon Collins, 50, Clontarf passed away Tuesday evening at Meadow Lane Nursing Home in Benson.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday September 21 at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Clontarf. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are with the Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Montevideo.

Donald W. Regan, 95 of Benson

Donald W. Regan, 95, of Benson, died Friday, September 13, 2013 at Meadow Lane Nursing Home in Benson.  
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in DeGraff.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the church with a rosary at 4:30 p.m.  Visitation will continue  Saturday for one hour prior to the service.  
Funeral arrangements are with the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Donald William Regan was born  September 14, 1917 in Clontarf, the son of Patrick and Julia (Duggan) Regan.  He attended Clontarf Elementary and Benson High School, graduating in 1936. After his schooling, he entered the U.S. Navy where he served his country during WWII.

Joseph Allen Aust, age 35, of Willmar, died on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at his home in Willmar.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 14, 2013, at the Church of the Visitation in Danvers.  Burial will follow the mass at the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Church.
 
Joseph suffered from the effects of diabetes, after a five year struggle with this disease; he was called home by his Creator.  He is survived by his son, Logan; father, Scott Aust; and other family members and friends.
 
Arrangements are with the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, MN.

Joseph J. Vlach, 93, of Benson, died on Monday, September 02, 2013, at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, September 07, 2013, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson.  Burial will follow the mass at St. Francis Catholic Church Cemetery near Benson. 

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.  Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson is in charge of the arrangements.

Patricia A. Lorsung age 73 of Alexandria and formerly of Bemidji, MN died on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at her home.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 10AM at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield, MN.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.   A Graveside Service will be held later that day at Calvary Lutheran Cemetery in Bemidji, MN at 3:30PM.

Jana Lee (Christenson) Bown, 56, of Elk River, Minnesota passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013 at their river cabin.
A memorial service will be held at Dares Funeral Home in Elk River Thursday, Aug. 29 from 5-7 p.m. and a prayer service to follow.
A memorial service will be held in Benson at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church Saturday, August 31 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be 1/2 hour prior to service. Coffee to follow.
Burial will be at a later date.

Joseph R. Fennie, Northfield, formerly Benson

Joseph R. Fennie, Northfield, formerly Benson, died on Friday August 23, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Audrey H. (Dahl) Fennie. Daughter - Kristi Hayes of Shakopee, MN and Son - Jon Fennie (Megan) of Bremerton, WA. Granddaughter - Kelly Smerdon of Shakopee. Sister - Marion Nelson of Kenai, AK. Sister-in-law - Eileen Arvesen of Waseca, MN. Also by his nieces and nephews.
 
Joe was born April, 6th 1927 in Red Wing, MN to Joseph and Esther Fennie. He attended Red Wing schools and graduated in 1945. He was active in the music program, drama, cheerleading, rifle club, and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad. Joe enlisted in the U.S. Navy and entered service in 1945, and served on the USS LCI-R 646 in the Pacific and Japan. After discharge he attended Winona State University, where he was active in band, drama, cheerleading and was president of the student body his senior year.

Victor Walter Stiehm, 27, of Benson

Victor Walter Stiehm, 27, of Benson, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 in St. Cloud, Minnesota after a long and courageous battle with mental illness.
Victor was born November 27, 1985 in Anchorage, Alaska to Lynn M. Jacobson-Stiehm and Walter V. Stiehm.
Victor will be remembered for his abundance of kindness, willingness to help others and his love of hockey.
Victor is survived by his son, Dustin Victor Stiehm and his mother, Lynn M. Jacobson-Stiehm of Benson; father, Walter V. Stiehm of Roundup, Montana; half-brothers, David Stiehm and Christopher (Faye) Stiehm; along with many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Lowell “Spook” Jacobson, Lolly and Marv Fritz and Victor and Kathryn Stiehm.
A celebration of Victor’s life will be held at a later date.
