Marlin L. Ellingson, 70, of Benson, Minnesota died Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at his home under Hospice care. 

Visitation was held 3-5 p.m., Sunday, July 15, 2018, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson.  Visitation continued from 10-11 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 11 a.m., Monday, July 16, 2018, at the church.  Burial was in the Benson City Cemetery. 

Marlin Larry Ellingson was born April 27, 1948 in Barrett, Minnesota, the son of Burtland and Ella Amelia (Achterberg) Ellingson.  He was confirmed at First Lutheran Church. Marlin grew up in Elbow Lake and attended Elbow Lake High School.  In 1967, he was married to Arlene Winter and they had four children, Lisa, Theresa, Rick, and Chad.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2018 at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Joseph, Minnesota  for Kathleen Ione Olson, 79.  She died Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the St. Cloud Hospital.  Susan Putzke, a Chaplin at the St. Cloud Hospital, will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Benson City Cemetery, Benson.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the services Friday at Daniel Funeral Home.

Verna Pillatzki, 88, of Benson, Minnesota, died Friday evening July 6, 2018 at the Swift County Benson Hospital.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 12, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson, with a 4:30 p.m. rosary and prayer service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday July 13, at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. Interment will be in the St. Francis Catholic Church Cemetery.

Verna Lorraine Pillatzki, 88, was born September 21, 1929 on a farm near Kerkhoven, Minnesota, the daughter of Otto and Gladys (Bengtson) Mattson. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church November 2, 1929 and confirmed May, 20, 1945.  August 3, 1948 she was baptized and received her first communion at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson and later confirmed by Father Dorrer,  August 15, 1948. She attended Country school and completed the 8th grade.

Pearl R. Rasmusson, 91, of Benson, Minnesota (formerly of Morris) passed away June 28, 2018.
Pearl was preceded in death by husband, Gorden C.; daughter, Kayla Jean; and son, Wayne Lee.
She is survived by sons: Arnold (Mary), Leon (Mary), Richard, Lyle; grandchildren: Aric, Michael, Randy, Andrew, Brandon and great-grandchildren. Service details pending.

Roland “Rolly” E. Hartmann, 44, of Big Stone City, SD, formerly of Mahnomen, Minnesota, died Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Essentia Health Systems in Fargo, ND.

Funeral Services were held Friday, June 29, 2018 at 11 a.m.  at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen with visitation starting at 9 a.m. and going until the time of the funeral.  Burial was  in the Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Mahnomen.

Emlyn Frazeur, 95, of Canby, Minnesota passed away Monday, June 25, 2018 at Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby.  

A Memorial Service was held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church in Canby. Burial was in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Canby. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church Friday, June 29, 2018.

Emlyn L. Frazeur was born Oct. 8, 1922 to Sam and Emma Knutson in rural Canby,  Yellow Medicine County. Her grandparents all emigrated from Norway and Norwegian was spoken at home while she was young. She was active in First English Lutheran Church in Canby throughout her childhood years. When her mother became sick and passed away in 1935, Emlyn was just 13. The Knutson siblings helped take care of Emlyn as well as Sam and delayed their own schooling to take care of the Knutson home. Emlyn was the youngest of seven children.

Rev. Charles Laverne Gunderson, 88, of Northfield, Minnesota, passed away peacefully  June 21, 2018 at the Northfield Retirement Center with loving family by his side.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 1321 North Ave., Northfield.  Visitation was at the church  Monday, June 25, 2018, from 4-7 p.m. and continued  Tuesday one hour prior to the service.  Interment with Military Honors took place at Oaklawn Cemetery in Northfield.  Pallbearers were his grandchildren.

Charles was born  February 15, 1930, the youngest of Elmer and Inez (Hermanson) Gunderson’s seven children.  He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison, WI.

Richard “Dick” H. Schirmer, 74, of Fridley, Minnesota, formerly of Benson, died  peacefully Monday June 18, 2018, at the Benedictine Health Care Center at Innsbruck in New Brighton.

Visitation was held from 2-3 p.m.  Friday, June 22, followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m. at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church Chapel in Benson.   Interment was in the Benson City Cemetery.  

Richard was born August 29, 1943 in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Harold and Lila Schirmer. He attended school in the Benson area graduating from Benson High School in 1961. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Morris in 1964 and was accepted for post graduate work at the University of Iowa.

Eleanor “Ellie” Jane Floan,  87, died Saturday, June 9, 2018 at her home in Benson.  

Visitation will be held 1-2 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2018, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., at West Zion Lutheran Church in rural Hancock.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  

Ellie was born July 20, 1930 to Odin and Olga (Erickson) Floan in Langhei Township, Pope County, Minnesota.  She was baptized  August 10, 1930 at West Zion Lutheran Church. She continued to live on the farm with her parents until her mother’s death.  At that time, she moved into Swift County Homes Number 1 where she continued to live until the time of her death.

Ellie attended the Developmental Achievement Center in Benson for many years where she worked at various jobs and participated in many social activities.

Diane Kay Ascheman, 69, of Benson, Minnesota, died Sunday afternoon, June 17, 2018, at Homestead Place North in Benson. Visitation was held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a 4:30 p.m. Parish Prayer Service, Wednesday, June 20 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson. A mass of christian burial was held Thursday, June 21, at St. Francis Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment was in the Church of the Visitation Catholic Church Cemetery in Danvers.

Diane Kay (Sulier) Ascheman was born August 21, 1948, in Benson, Minnesota, the daughter of Richard and Viola (Hess) Sulier. She grew up in the Benson area and graduated from Benson High School.

November 19, 1966, Diane was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Ascheman at St. Francis Catholic Church. This union was blessed with more than 51 years of marriage, four children, and five grandchildren.
