Gladys I. Wildeboer, 96, of Benson, Minnesota died Monday afternoon, April 25, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Benson.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 28, at the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson.  Interment was in the Benson City Cemetery.  Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church.   

Gladys I. Wildeboer was born October 7, 1919, in Kensal, North Dakota, the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Wayne) Atchison.  She grew up in the Benson area, was baptized at West Zion Church, confirmed at St. Pauli Church in Swift Falls and received her education in the Benson schools.

Marion Jane Schliep, 84, of Appleton, Minnesota (formerly of Holloway)  died Saturday, April 23, 2016 in the Appleton Area Health Services - Care Center.  

Funeral services were Friday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church- Fairfield Township, officiated by Rev. Donald Klatt.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.  

Marion Jane Schliep was born July 10, 1931 to the late Ingvald and Eleanor (Paulson) Tofte.

She was baptized August 9, 1931 and was confirmed November 11, 1945 at her childhood church, Drywood Lutheran.  

Marion was raised in the Holloway and Appleton area.  She attended country school District #30 and later attended Appleton High School.  Her love of dancing introduced her to a handsome young man at a dance in Holloway.

Norma Fox, age 85, of rural Appleton, died Sunday, April 24, 2016 in her home.  A memorial gathering was held Saturday, April 30th at Zniewski Funeral Home –Vaala Chapel in Appleton.  It was Norma’s desire to be cremated and not have a funeral.  We, her family, are honoring her request. 

Norma Jane Converse, daughter of Martha E & Elmer E Converse was born July 21, 1930 in Walnut Grove, MN.  She graduated from Walnut Grove High School.  She was united in marriage to Lloyd Fox in 1948.  They lived in Minneapolis a short time before moving to Revere, MN to take over the farm.  They relocated in 1957 to the current Fox farm by Appleton, MN where she resided until she passed away peacefully on April 24, 2016.

Stanley H. Schliep, age 86, of Appleton, formerly of Holloway, died Friday in Appleton Area Health Services –Care Center.  Funeral Services will be Wednesday, May 4th at 10:30AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church –Fairfield Township, officiated by Rev. Donald Klatt.  Visitation will be 5:00PM to 7:00PM, Tuesday, May 3rd, at Zniewski Funeral Home –Vaala Chapel in Appleton.  Visitation will resume for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Rice Hospice.  A full obituary is pending.

Shirley A. Loen, 73, of Benson, Minnesota died  Tuesday morning, April 26, 2016 at the Gabriel House in Murdock.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m.  Saturday, April 30 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson. Visitation was held  Friday, April 29 from 5-8 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson and continued for one hour prior to the service at the church, Saturday.

Shirley Ann Loen was born  May 11, 1942 in Benson, Minnesota, the daughter of Lloyd Melvin and Alice Elizabeth (Coryell) Lee.  She grew up on the farm in rural Benson and was baptized and confirmed at Lake Hazel Lutheran Church. She attended Benson schools and later attended St. Cloud State College.

December 22, 1962, she was united in marriage to Bruce Stanley Loen at Lake Hazel Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with over 52 years of marriage.

A Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Zniewski Funeral Home Chapel in Benson with visitation held for one hour prior to the service.  

Burial will be in the Benson City Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to your memorial of choice.

Paul M. Diederich,  59, died Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Golden Living Center - Meadow Lane in Benson, Minnesota.  

A Mass of Christian Burial was held 11 a.m., Monday, April 25, 2016 at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson with Father Jeremy Kucera officiating.  Visitation was held one hour prior to the service.  Burial was at 1:30 p.m. in the St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery in DeGraff.  

Paul Michael Diederich was born February 12, 1957 in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Cletus Matthew and Doris Louise (Matter) Diederich.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis Catholic Church and graduated from St. Francis Catholic Grade School and Benson High School.

Robert A. Wallin, 85, of Stillwater, Minnesota and formerly of Duluth and Asheville, NC, died  Saturday, April 16, 2016.

Funeral services were held at Valley Grove Church, Nerstrand,  Friday, April 22, 2016.

Robert Alger, the son of Roy and Mae (Plackner) Wallin, was born November 28, 1930 in Benson.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Robert married Gladys L. Hope on June 9, 1955 in Faribault and she preceded him in death  July 21, 2004. He was previously employed as a high school teacher in Wadena and Duluth and as a housing inspector for the City of Duluth.

He is survived by two children, Janna (and Pastor Arden) Haug of Minneapolis and Kurt (and Tammy) Wallin of Auburn, WA; five grandchildren, Vitali (and Gina) Haug, Alexei Haug, Brennan, Deneille and Cierra Wallin; great grandson Ivan Haug; and a sister, Donna Anderson of Willmar.

Glenn K. Rood, 77, of Sunburg, Minnesota died Wednesday afternoon, April 13, 2016, at his farm in rural Sunburg.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m.  Monday, April 18, 2016 at Hope Lutheran Church in Sunburg. Visitation was held from 3-5 p.m.  Sunday, April 17, at Hope Lutheran Church and continued Monday for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Glenn Kenneth Rood was born January 20, 1939 on the family farm on the shores of Monson Lake near Sunburg, the son of Elmer and Clara (Ellingson) Rood.  He grew up and attended Sunday school in Sunburg and attended country school and school in Kerkhoven. He was confirmed at West Norway Lake Lutheran Church.

In 1968, he married Linda Thorson and they were later divorced. He worked on gas lines in Shakopee, built silos for Hanson’s Construction in Canada.

Joel Taylor

Joel Taylor, was 73 years of age when he passed away very unexpectedly on Saturday, April 2, 2016 in Tucson, AZ.  A Celebration of Life service was held at Tucson Estates on April 10th. 

Joel Taylor was born on April 25, 1942 to Joel Richard and Delores (Weiss) Taylor in Clearwater, Florida.  He moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota with his mother at the age of 3.  He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School continuing on to Bemidji State where he received his teaching degree.   While student teaching in International Falls, he met Sharlyn Sampson.  They were united in marriage on August 1, 1964 and enjoyed 51 years together.  Joel was offered the teaching position in Benson, Minnesota where he taught art for 36 years until he retired in 2000.
