St. Patrick’s Day parade is Saturday

It’s going to be a chilly St. Patrick’s Day parade for Benson Saturday with a high of 17 forecast by the National Weather Service. That high will be 23 degrees below the average of 40 degrees for March 18.

The parade is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. with those participating lining up at 2:30 on the south side of the Benson High School. The parade travel down 13th Street North (Minnesota Highway 9) to Patrick’s Pub & Grill where prizes will be awarded for the best float and the best banner.

Doris Sullivan, who passed away last November, was chosen as the honorary grand marshal for this year’s parade. She was an active part of the St. Patrick’s Day celebration for many years, making banners for the family float, and participating in clan festivities after the parade.

The evening will finish off with a dance with the band Roxbury providing the entertainment starting at 8:30 p.m.

Last year, there was little snow on the ground and the high reached 52 degrees the Saturday of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
