Understanding there are a lot of factors that can go into measuring snowfall, the winter of 2022-2023 has set a record for the Benson area for the most snowfall in a winter season.

With 78.75 inches of snow so far, the winter of 2022-2023 is now number one for snowfall surpassing previous record holder the winter of 2018-2019, with its 78.5 inches of snow. In third place is the winter of 1968-1969, which recorded 76.4 inches of snow.

Three of the four winter season snowfall records now have occurred since the winter of 2010-2011. Benson started keeping daily weather records in 1952.

This winter has been marked with frequent winter storm and blizzard watches, which have led to numerous delayed school starts, early out, and e-learning days when there were no in-school classes.
