Seasons on hold . . . While playing surfaces lay vacant, players stay ready, just in case

Minnesota schools are closed until at least May 4, but it’s very probable schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year and along with that, the high school sports season will also be canceled.

This sportswriter has been working at the same job for over 30 years and has seen nothing like this.  Sure, some spring sports seasons have started very late, sometimes up to three weeks late, and there’s been numerous postponements and cancellations during the winter season with storms and snow, but it’s been nothing close to having an entire season wiped off the calendar.

While some people talk of possibly having a condensed high school sports season of a few weeks, along with postseason tournaments, others talk of extending the high school season into the summer...
