Public works director, Benson agree to part ways

By Reed Anfinson
At its meeting Monday night, Benson Mayor Jack Evenson read a prepared statement making it official that the city was parting ways with Public Works Director Dan Gens.
Evenson said the city and Gens had reached an “amicable agreement” over what the city would pay him through a separation agreement that ends his 10-year employment by the city.
Gens had been placed on administrative leave in September as the council discussed his job performance and studied its options for either keeping him on staff or ending his employment.
October 26, the council conducted a special meeting with Gens to discuss what the next steps would be on his employment with the city. While the meeting could have been done in closed session, Gens, as the subject of the meeting was allowed to request that it be open.
