Planting efforts frustrated by rain

Lead Summary

By Reed Anfinson

Since May 8, the Benson area has received 6.5 inches of rain. Some areas have gotten over 7 inches. May averages 3.15 inches of rain.
The last 10 days of April saw 2.28 inches of rain. Added to May’s rainfall, that totals nearly 9 inches of rain. It’s no surprise that fields are sodden, with standing water in too many places.
Unfortunately for area farmers who are already far behind with the planting, the chance for more rain is forecast for Tuesday, Thursday and Friday this week.
