Kid Day may have a street dance

Lead Summary

As part of this summer’s Kid Day celebration, the Chamber of Commerce approached Patrick’s Pub  & Grill about conducting a street dance.
Monday night at the Benson City Council meeting Patrick’s owners Terry and Jennifer Sullivan presented their plans to the council and sought approval for the event, which is set for Saturday, July 19. A band is being booked to play outside from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The street dance would take place on 13th Street between Pacific Avenue and Kansas Avenue – the area between Patrick’s and Jimmy’s Pizza. The area would be fenced off with people entering the area required to go through the inside bar.
Council Member Stephanie Heinzig told the Sullivans that there are a lot of young people who are excited about the possibility of a street dance. However, she is concerned about the security for allowing them inside an area where drinks are being served. She also doesn’t want them outside the dance area, hanging around in the railroad park.
Everyone entering the fenced in area would have to get a wristband of black light stamp.
There was a street dance at the same location in 2010 for the Benson All School Reunion.
