LaVayne Langan

Lead Summary

LAVAYNE LANGAN
October 27, 1928 - February 13, 2018
LaVayne Langan passed away on Tuesday, February 13th at her daughter’s home in Reno, NV with family by her side. She was 89 years old.
She was born on October 27, 1928, the daughter of Martin and Goldie Rovang. LaVayne grew up on the family farm in Bryant, South Dakota; she started her education in a one-room school house and graduated with a degree in teaching from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD.
Teaching was more than an occupation for LaVayne, it was a passion. She started teaching in Watertown, SD and then moved to Benson, MN in her early 20’s to start the kindergarten program. She had countless wonderful memories of students and colleagues from her time teaching in the Benson school district. She taught for over 50 years and felt privileged to have been part of so many young lives. Multiple generations of families had Mrs. Langan as a teacher.
In 1956, LaVayne married Jim Langan, a local farmer. Together, they established their own farm adjacent to Jim’s childhood home. Through their 60 years of marriage they raised four children and adored their two grandsons. They sold cattle, farmed traditional crops and later started Charlie’s Hunting Club. When not working on the farm, the family enjoyed time at their lake cabin where LaVayne usually had a pan of fresh cinnamon rolls on the table and an open door to friends.
LaVayne is survived by her three children, Patricia Richard (Dean), Jeanne Langan and Joseph Langan, her two grandchildren, Matthew Richard and AJ Richard and her sister, Ardis Dragsten. She is preceded in death by her husband James Langan, son Matthew Langan and her parents Martin and Goldie Rovang.
The family will have a celebration of life on March 31st at the family farm in Danvers, MN. We appreciate the thoughts and prayers we have received and ask in lieu of sending flowers, please consider donating in her memory to Northside Elementary School, Benson, MN.
