Alice Elizabeth Loen was born November 11, 1921, in Kensal, North Dakota, the daughter of Samuel and Mary (Wayne) Atchison.  She was called from this life Friday evening, November 3, 2017, at Holly Ridge Manor in Starbuck, Minnesota.  Alice attained the age of 95 years, 11 months and 23 days.  

Alice grew up in the Benson area, receiving her education in the Benson and Bemidji schools.  She was baptized at West Zion Lutheran Church and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. Pauli Lutheran Church in Swift Falls.  

October 10, 1940, Alice was united in marriage to Stanley Loen in Benson.  They made their home on a farm near Benson.  To this union, seven children were born.  Together, Alice and Stanley were able to share in almost 64 years of marriage.  

Alice was a homemaker and worked at the Nelson-Skaife Medical Clinic in Benson.  Later, she and Stanley purchased the Midway Store between Benson and Starbuck.  When they retired, they moved to Starbuck.  While there, she worked at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home and Holly Ridge Manor.  

Alice was a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church of Benson.  She was a 4-H advisor and loved baking, flower gardening, bowling, embroidery and crocheting.  She also enjoyed attending her children’s school activities.  

Alice is survived by her sons, Bruce Loen and Allen (Diane) Loen, both of Benson; five daughters: Connie (Tim) Kavanaugh of Elk River, Sandra Grendahl of Prior Lake, Patricia Carlson of Apple Valley, Diane (Dewayne) Melberg of Alexandria, and Colleen (David) Johnsrud of Starbuck; 14 grandchildren: Nancy, Jeffrey, Juanita, Chillon, Carrie, Dan, Heidi, Cheree, Traci, Amy, Ashley, Katie, Hollie and Kristie; and 21 great grandchildren.  

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Samuel; a daughter in infancy; grandsons Donovan Melberg and Reid Loen; three brothers, Arnold, Leo, and Raymond Atchison; and five sisters, Jessie Todd, June Olson, Marion Clark, Gladys Wildeboer and Grace Hilden.   Blessed be her memory.
