Girls tennis team ends season at section tourney

Olivia Hoffman and Gracie Lenz, who were seeded sixth, won their first two matches to reach the semifinals, but then lost to the seventh-seeded team from Minnewaska Area and also in the third-place match to finish fourth.
 
The 2017 State Girls Tennis Tournament is set for Oct. 24-27 in Minneapolis.
 
Gracie Lenz finished the season as the top winner for Benson-KMS with a 20-6 record, while also finishing above .500 were Stacy Johnson (16-7), Amy Zniewski (15-8), Olivia Hoffman (15-12), Emma Heinzig (12-11), and Susan Knutson (12-11).
Six members of the Benson-KMS girls tennis team competed at the Section 6A Individual Tennis Tournament last Monday and Tuesday with Gracie Lenz and Olivia Hoffman going on to finish fourth in doubles.
 
Hoffman and Lenz, who were the sixth seed, topped a team from Morris Area in the first round, 6-3, 6-1, and then upset the third-seeded team from LQP 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 7-5.
 
That put Hoffman and Lenz in the semifinals where they met another team that had just won by an upset, the seventh-seeded pair from Minnewaska Area.
 
Hoffman and Lenz lost that match, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, and then also lost the third-place match to a team from Lac qui Parle, 6-4, 6-3.
 
The top seeds, another team from Minnewaska Area, won the championship over their teammates, 6-2, 6-0.
 
Benson’s other doubles’ entrant, Emma Heinzig and Brenna Knutson, were the 13th seed, and then fell to a team from Osakis in the opening.....
