Braves fall to Mainstreeters, 34-14

Lead Summary

Sauk Centre scored 22 first-quarter points and the Braves lost their starting runningback to season-ending injury during a 34-14 home loss to the Mainstreeters, Friday night on Brock Field during the annual Father-Son Night for Benson.
Sauk Centre scored on its first three possessions of the game, the final one coming with 26 seconds left in the first quarter, to build up an early 22-0 lead.  The Braves got their first touchdown in the second quarter, but Sauk Centre scored twice more to go up 34-6 before both teams unloaded the bench.
“Sauk Centre’s size and running attack made us commit nine defensive players to the box (five linemen and four linebackers) early in the game,” Benson coach Scott Gonnerman said.  “By having success running the ball, it allowed them to have success with their play-action passing game to their tightends.
“We knew going into the game we needed to stop their running game.  Unfortunately, we were not able to do that.....”
