Funeral Notice
 
Benson, Minnesota – David A. Mitteness, 71, died on Thursday morning, August 24, 2017 at the Meadow Lane Rehabilitaion and Healthcare Center in Benson. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., followed by the funeral at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Swift Falls. Interment will be in Swift Falls Cemetery in Swift Falls, Minnesota. Zniewski Funeral Home of Benson is assisting the family with the arrangements. 
 
David Allen Mitteness was born on April 23, 1946, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Morris and Maria (Radishat) Mitteness. He was baptized and confirmed at Shepherd of the Hillls Lutheran Church. He grew up on the farm in the Swift Falls area. He attended Benson schools and after his graduation from Benson High School, he attended the University of Minnesota – Crookston, where he graduated in 1965 with a degree in Agricultural Sciences. On October 27, 1979, he married Karen Schomburg at the Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson. They later divorced. He was a self-employed farmer and raised sugar beets, corn, wheat, and livestock. 
He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. David enjoyed spending his time on the farm, wood working, watching sports on the television, and he loved being outside. In 2012, he moved into Southview Manor. He was called from this life on Thursday morning, August 24, 2017, at the Meadow Lane health care center in Benson. He attained the age of 71 years, 4 months, and 1 day. 
He is survived by his son Zachariah Mitteness and his children Waaseyaa and Minia of Bemidji, his son Jonathan (Laura) Mitteness and their children Luke, Hannah, and Rachel of Peoria, Arizona, his daughter Melissa (Donald) Buterbaugh and their children Donald Jr., Hunter, and Logan, of Bemidji; his siblings, Morris (Ann) Mitteness of Corvallis, Montana, Donna (Bill) Preece of New Richmond, Wisconsin, and Carole Pramagiorre of New York, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents Morris and Maria, his brothers Gerhard, Raymond, Jim, Milton, and Donald Mitteness, and his sisters Margaret Kolstad and Betty Petersen.
