KMS volleyball team to open up season early this year, Friday, Aug. 25
The KMS volleyball team is set to get off to an early start this year with a match Friday, Aug. 25 at home against Kimball Area.  The Saints are also set to play at Minnewaska Area, Monday, Aug. 28, and at Benson, Tuesday, Aug. 29.
It’s interesting to note that the Saints are opening up against Kimball, a team that ended KMS’ season last year in the Section 5A Tournament semifinals and went on to place sixth at state.
The KMS volleyball team finished the 2016 season with a 13-18 overall record and were also 3-8 in the always-tough Camden North Conference.  However, you could also say the team finished 12-6, if you count the matches where the team played at full strength. 
The Saints, coached by Joquel Molenaar, were 8-1 at one point in the season before losing a five-game match to Canby, Sept. 15 to fall to 8-2; the same night senior Sam Gjerde went down with an injury.  She wouldn’t return until the Underwood Tourney, where KMS went 1-3 overall.
