Milton Skarsten was born on August 23, 1935, on the family farm in Camp Lake Township. He grew up on the farm and attended country school, attended the school for the Blind in Faribault for a few years, and then returned to the farm and graduated from Benson High School.
 
On August 16, 1958, Milton was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Bergman in Minneapolis, Minnesota. To this union one son and five daughters were born. Together, Milton and Shirley were able to share in over 43 years of marriage. He loved spending time with his family. Milton loved all aspects of farming and enjoyed participating with his children in 4-H.  He loved the people and community of Swift Falls. He was a member of the Swift Falls Lutheran Church and the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. He was called from this life on Sunday morning, August 6, 2017, at the Swift County Benson Hospital. He attained the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 14 days.  
 
Milton is survived by his children Dennis Skarsten of Grand Rapids, Cheryl (Richard) Maggipinto of New Port Beach, California, Dr. Mary (Peter) Skarsten-Dinerman of San Francisco, California, Laurie Skarsten of Minneapolis, Nancy Skarsten (Stephen Howard) of Benson, and Debra (Robert) Sackey of Minneapolis; 13 grandchildren; a sister Anna Offerdahl of Benson, a special nephew Dale Burns of Benson; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley on May 14, 2002, his parents Arthur and Myrtle, and a sister Edith Flaten. Blessed be his memory.
