Lake Reno gets the best of Fishing League during week #4

The Swift Fishing League pulled Lake Reno from the hat for its June 8th event.  It was a sunny 84 degree evening at the 6 p.m. start.  Water temperature was 72 degrees with a light wind.  The league members were expecting a big night at the weigh-in table, since the bite on Reno had been pretty good the past week, and the weather was favorable.  As it is with fishing, you never really know what will happen until you get on the water.  It turned out to be a very slow bite, with only a few fish caught.  As the evening went on, the mayflies were emerging from the water in droves.  By the time for the 9 p.m. weigh-in, there were clouds of millions of mayflies swarming above the landing.  All that food in the lake was likely a factor in the slow bite.  
The league teams brought only six walleyes and six northerns to the weigh-in.  Bob Hoberg caught the largest walleye at 19.25” for 5 points.  Largest northern was 29.5” caught by Jamie Naig for 5 points.  Jeremy and sub Logan Schauer brought in a 26.25” northern and a 18.25” walleye, which gained them 8 points for the win.  The walleye was a tough fighter which ended up breaking Logan’s rod in the battle.  They still managed to somehow boat the fish and now have a great story to tell.  Good job Logan!  Second place was a tie at 6 points between teams Marble Eyes, Quarter After, and Googan.  Past the halfway point of the season, Quarter After is still in the lead with 51 points, while Googan is second, and Hot Shots third.
The Swift Fishing League is made up of ten teams from the Swift County area. The league fishes one event per week for seven weeks. Each team is allowed to measure a combination of six walleyes and northern pike per event. Points are awarded based on the length of the fish, plus one show-up point each week for attending. First, second, and third place are recognized each week. Awards are also given to the season-long winners....
